If music be the food of love, then play on - Kansas!

Ten years back, Chase County, KS rancher Jane Koger convened an all-woman orchestra to celebrate her 40th birthday with the first ever ‘symphony on the prairie’, enjoyed by 3,000 people, at her Homestead Ranch. Ever since, the legend of the Symphony In The Flint Hills has grown. In 2014, 1000’s of appreciative music lovers will once again gather to drink in the magic of symphonic music wafting on the evening prairie breeze, accompanied by endless grass and sky and encored with a gorgeous Kansas sunset. “Art and environment brought together to nourish the soul.” says Jane. www.symphonyintheflinthills.org

At the other end of the musical scale (and in between there's theatre, jazz, bluegrass ...) and fresh home to the US from his debut concerts in the UK - supporting a particularly feisty LeAnn Rimes - is Clearwater, KS son - Logan Mize. He writes country/rock lyrics replete  with humour and insight; he sings them with clarity and attack, and he plays a mean guitar too. If the world is a fair place, Logan will be big and he's worth seeking out. www.loganmize.com

And Logan is the voice on the upcoming Kansas advertising film - here’s a preview …

Kansas has given the world some really big names -  amongst them great C&W artistes like Melissa Etheridge; rockers like Joe Walsh and enduring bands such as the eponymous Kansas - but at its heart is the deep tradition of playing for friends and family or getting together weekends to jam or grab the open mic. Take a road trip and hear for yourself one day soon ... and meanwhile, remember that name - Logan Mize, Clearwater, KS; perhaps coming to a theatre near you one night soon!
