'Land & Sky' Scenic Byway makes it a dozen for 2017
KANSAS 'LAND AND SKY' SCENIC BYWAY MAKES IT A DOZEN FOR 2017
The Sunflower State's northwestern high plains are now home to its 12th designated themed route - the Land and Sky Scenic Byway. In 88 breathtaking miles along US Highway 27, it showcases Kansas' vital agriculture and farming communities from Sharon Springs north to the Nebraska state line. Its vast wheat fields are just part of the route's story - joined by sunflowers, soybean and other crops in their seasons.
Homely B&B's; toothsome country restaurants, quirky shopping and museums redolent of the state's rich history and culture enhance the Byway. Traversing it is the Wallace Branch of the Great Western Cattle Trail, successor to the legendary Chisholm Trail. And that's not to mention the stunning Arikaree Breaks, where the high plains give way to a panorama of deep ravines and gullies ... or Goodland, KS, boasting the world's largest painting on an easel - representing Van Gogh's world-famous depictions of sunflowers.
